A baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached has been found amongst a litter of puppies.
An newborn abandoned by her mother has allegedly been saved by puppies who kept her warm.
The baby was found by locals with no clothing, and her umbilical cord still attached, with a litter of puppies in a field in India.
Those who found the baby claim she was found by a dog, who cuddled up with the baby along with its puppies, all night, in the Chattisgarh province.
“It’s possibly the warmth from puppies and their mother itself who had kept this newborn alive,” an anonymous local said.
“Usually, the temperature dips at night and it’s already December. I must say, it’s her sheer luck.”
Baby was perfectly healthy
The uninjured baby was found nestled alongside the puppies after locals heard her crying.
One local, Premnath, said it was a “miracle” the baby had survived the night, because stray dogs can be vicious.
“It is a miracle only to find newborn baby surviving when stray dogs are lurking every now and then at the dead of the night.”
Emergency services were called and took to the newborn – named Akanksha – to a child protection service, Child Line Project, after being examined by doctors in a hospital.
An investigation is underway, and police are searching for her parents.
