August lives with her owners Steve and Jennifer in Tennessee. She came to them at the age of 14, which roughly corresponds to 78 years in humans. She used to live in Nevada.
Golden retrievers usually live 10-12 years and often get cancer. So Steve and Jennifer were worried that the dog would not live very long with them.

However, after a couple of years it became clear that August was healthy and quite active. And everyone decided that she was a long-liver.
“Given that she was already 14 years old when we got her, and we don’t know what she was fed before, we think it just has to do with good genes,” Steve says when asked about the secret to a dog’s longevity.

Now August has mild kidney failure of the second stage. But thanks to timely treatment and prevention, her condition is stable and does not worsen (the fourth stage is considered serious).
According to Steve, August is a little slow, but still likes to take part in different activities – jumping in puddles, relaxing in front of the TV with her family.
