A heartwarming moment captured on camera shows a ʀᴇᴛɪʀᴇᴅ ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ dog ᴛᴇᴀʀɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ after a surprise reunion with her former partner. Wangwang, an eight-year-old Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴ sʜᴇᴘʜᴇʀᴅ, worked as a sɴɪꜰꜰᴇʀ dog at sᴇᴄᴜʀɪᴛʏ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋᴘᴏɪɴᴛs in Xichuan county in Henan province, central Cʜɪɴᴀ. The eight-year-old Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴ sʜᴇᴘʜᴇʀᴅ was ᴀᴅᴏᴘᴛᴇᴅ after she ʀᴇᴛɪʀᴇᴅ in June 2019.

After retiring, Wangwang was ᴀᴅᴏᴘᴛᴇᴅ into a new home. The move meant that Wangwang and her handler were separated after years of working together. The ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ handler decided to give a surprise visit to his friend. In the clip, the ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ officer can be seen outside Wangwang’s home, calling for her.

As she realises who’s waiting for her, a very excited Wangwang rushes out of the front door to greet her old friend, runs up to him and immediately lays on the floor for cuddles. While rubbing up against the ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ officer’s legs Wangwang appears to start crying. The clip was shared on Xichuan Pᴏʟɪᴄᴇ’s Douyin account – the Cʜɪɴᴇsᴇ version of TikTok – and the viewers of the video had their ʜᴇᴀʀᴛs ᴍᴇʟᴛᴇᴅ at the adorable dog’s emotional reunion.

The Post wrote: “Wangwang’s hair is turning white but she is well fed, she is getting fat. It is always hard to bid farewell to your buddy.” Viewers had their ʜᴇᴀʀᴛs ᴍᴇʟᴛᴇᴅ at the adorable pooch’s emotional reunion. One wrote: “The dog is welling up. Dogs are really loyal companions, please treat her well!” A second commented: “You can tell how much Wangwang misses her handler. You can understand when the dog greets you belly up.”

Some viewers wondered why Wangwang was ɴᴏᴛ allowed to stay with her handler, who she is so clearly attached to. Xichuan ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ answered in the comments: “ᴘᴏʟɪᴄᴇ dogs are generally well fed at the training centre but our officers could ɴᴏᴛ dedicate their time to play or exercise with ʀᴇᴛɪʀᴇᴅ dogs.
